30 Day Challenge, April 2009
April 2009 marked our second 30 Day Challenge and 50 yogis stepped up to transform their bodies, minds and spirits.
Try it you'll love it
Van Nguyen is a new yogi at the Bikram Yoga Forest Hill studio. She's been practicing for a little more than a month - half that time as a 30 Day challenger. "I feel great after every class. I try to focus on one posture at a time; I try not to think of the next one," says Nguyen.
The challenge is in scheduling the time to practice daily. Says Nguyen: "Once you're here there's no challenge."
If I can do it, anybody can
Lisa Lapinacci attends university and works. With summer just around the corner, she’s added the 30 day challenge to her daily routine. "Before I started, I needed to rearrange my whole schedule," says Lapinacci, who hauls her books and yoga clothes to work and school.
Practicing since November, Lapinacci has seen positive changes in her body and how it functions. "I used to go to the gym, but I never noticed anything. With yoga, after the first month, I noticed that I didn’t feel as bloated."
Lapinacci is doing the challenge with her sister. "We kind of motivate each other. It's hard to get here, but I'm always glad I did," she says.
Take it one day at a time
"For Sandra Lupinacci the 30 Day challenge is about completing something you set out to do. The biggest challenge she notes: "It's getting organized, being motivated to come every day, changing your schedule around and washing your clothes. Once you're in the studio it's great."
This is her second 30 Day challenge; she completed 16 days in the November challenge. She advises challengers to avoid becoming overwhelmed by taking it one day at a time. "Each day helps. Signing up and trying it is a step forward," she says.
So how is her challenge going? Says Lupinacci: "It's going very well."
Give it 100% every time
Jose Alonso has been practicing regularly since his wife introduced him to Bikram Yoga Forest Hill last August. Since then he's shed 40 pounds. Now he's a 30 Day challenger.
He has three goals for the challenge: survive; improve some postures; and, break through mental resistance to practice more frequently. Says Alonso: "[I'd] like to do better with Head to Knee. If I can improve, that would be a big deal. After the 30 Day challenge I hope practicing four to five times per week will seem like a breeze."
In the meantime, he practices every day and gives 100% every time.
